Ethics

BACP and UKCP each has sets of guidelines or codes of ethics and complaints procedures which aim to protect the interests of clients, provide clear frames of reference for practitioners and maintain the integrity and high standards of the profession. The guidelines for work include regulations and conventions regarding such matters as confidentiality, respect for clients, working with difference etc.. Therapists are also required to undertake continuous professional development and to provide details of such activities annually to professional bodies. Other requirements, such as a professional executor who can quickly look after client needs in the case of sudden serious incapacity, professional and public liability insurance and on-going professional supervision, are all in place.

Background and Professional Interests

Throughout a large part of my professional life, I worked in the education sector; initially primary trained I subsequently worked in secondary schools and higher and further education. I have been involved in various projects which provide training for playgroup leaders, art and crafts to individuals with physical or learning disabilities and residents in homes for the elderly. Outside my professional life I have volunteered in several charitable organisations concerned with assisting those in emotional difficulties.

Later graduating as a therapist I merged my education and therapy interests and worked as the training manager in an out-centre of Anglia Ruskin University - planning and delivering programmes of study for a degree in child and adolescent counselling.   I have lecturing, tutoring and supervisory experience.

For some time I practised in London, worked in a secondary school as a counsellor to students and in the North Essex Health Trust Psychotherapy Department as an Honorary Psychotherapist.

Presenting problems are many and various, but I have a particular interest in difficulties which arise as a result of childhood and/or adolescent experiences or have a trauma-based component.
